Eliam’s Journey Through Holy Week: Palm Sunday – “The Triumphal Entry”

“They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel!’” – John 12:13

“This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: ‘Say to Daughter Zion, “See, your king comes to you, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”‘” – Matthew 21:4-5

In the soft light of dawn, Eliam awoke with a sense of anticipation he couldn’t explain. The village had been abuzz with rumors of Jesus of Nazareth’s arrival in Jerusalem. Today, he would witness the fulfillment of ancient prophecies; today was Palm Sunday, and Eliam wouldn’t miss it for the world.

As he made his way to Jerusalem, the roads seemed to pulse with an energy Eliam had never felt before. Families, elders, and children all streamed towards the city, their voices blending into a chorus of expectation. Eliam found himself swept up in the crowd, his heart beating in rhythm with their steps. The path was a tapestry of colors and sounds, a living mosaic of hope and yearning.

The nearer they got to Jerusalem, the more palpable the excitement became. Vendors along the way were selling palm branches and small trinkets commemorating the day. Children ran ahead, their laughter carrying on the wind, while elders shared stories of past Passovers and whispered about what this one, with Jesus’s arrival, might bring.

When the gates of Jerusalem came into view, Eliam could see the masses waving palm branches, their traditional symbol of triumph and victory. The air was thick with shouts of “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Eliam climbed onto a nearby rock, straining to see the source of the commotion.

And then, he saw Him.

Jesus entered not on a warhorse, but on a donkey, a symbol of peace. His eyes were calm, piercing through the chaos with a serenity that reached deep into Eliam’s soul. The crowd’s energy shifted from raucous celebration to awe-struck silence as Jesus passed. The contrast between the King the people expected and the humble figure before Eliam was stark. Yet, in that moment, Eliam understood the true essence of leadership and kingship โ€” power made perfect in humility.

As Jesus passed by, Eliam locked eyes with Him, and something within him shifted. The hopes and dreams of the people, the longing for salvation from oppression, seemed to converge upon this singular, peaceful figure. Eliam felt a profound connection in that gaze, a silent promise that spoke of change, of hope, of redemption.

Returning home, Eliam couldn’t shake the image of Jesus on the donkey. His mind raced with questions. Who was this man who defied every expectation? What kind of King chooses a donkey over a chariot, service over dominion? And most importantly, what did His arrival proclaim for the days to come?

Eliam realized that this Palm Sunday was the beginning of a journey not just for Jesus, but for him as well. It was a call to see beyond the external, to understand that true victory comes not through force, but through love and sacrifice. As the sun set, coloring the sky with hues of gold and purple, Eliam felt a stirring in his spirit. This week, he knew, would change everything.

In the days ahead, Eliam would follow closely, observing, questioning, and seeking. Palm Sunday had opened his eyes, but the journey was just beginning. What lessons would the coming days hold? What transformations awaited Eliam’s heart?

As Eliam lay down to sleep, the day’s events replayed in his mind. He realized that the journey ahead was not just about witnessing events; it was about understanding a deeper truth about the world, about power, and about love. Eliam drifted off to sleep with a prayer in his heart, ready for whatever the next day would bring.

Join us tomorrow as Eliam continues his journey through Holy Week, witnessing the unfolding of divine mysteries and the revelation of a King unlike any other.
