“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21
As Jerusalem teemed with pilgrims preparing for Passover, a palpable tension hung in the air, an unspoken anticipation of the events that were rumored to unfold. For Eliam, the whirlwind of the past daysโfrom the triumphal entry to the profound teachings and the dramatic cleansing of the Templeโhad left his mind reeling and his heart heavy with an indescribable longing.
Wednesday found Eliam wandering the city in contemplation, the voices of the marketplace fading into a backdrop for his thoughts. The city was alive with preparation, but within him, a quiet settledโa stark contrast to the bustling streets. It was a day without a direct encounter with Jesus, a day that the Gospels pass over in silence, offering Eliam and us a moment to pause and reflect.
Eliam found himself drawn to a quiet garden, a place where he had heard Jesus often went to pray. Though Jesus was not there, the tranquility of the setting offered Eliam a sacred space to ponder the profound truths he had encountered. The teachings of the past days echoed in his mind, particularly the call to be prepared for the coming of the kingdom and to discern what was truly valuable.
Sitting beneath an ancient olive tree, Eliam considered his life, his beliefs, and what he treasured most. The words “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” struck a chord deep within him. What did he value above all? Was it his safety, his comfort, or the approval of others? Or was it the pursuit of truth, the love of God, and the readiness to be part of God’s kingdom?
The silence of the day became a canvas for Eliam’s introspection, an opportunity to confront his doubts and fears and to consider the path that lay ahead. It was a moment of choiceโa time to decide whether to retreat to the familiarity of his former life or to step forward in faith, following the path that Jesus was paving, a path that promised transformation but also led through suffering and sacrifice.
As the shadows lengthened and the day drew to a close, Eliam’s heart was calm, yet resolved. He realized that the journey he was on was not just about witnessing miracles or being swept up in the excitement of the crowd. It was a deeply personal journey of faith, requiring him to lay down his own desires and expectations and to take up the call to follow Jesus, wherever that might lead.
With a prayer for strength and guidance, Eliam rose from his place of reflection, the silence of the day having prepared his heart for the trials to come. He understood now that the journey of Holy Week was not just a historical observance but a living invitation to walk with Jesus through the depths of suffering to the heights of resurrection.
